Same thing happened. Caller quoted my address and stated he would deliver a subpoena within 24-48 hrs, he said he would show up at my place of work or employer and he has scheduled a court date for me to appear within the next three days. Well it will not go well if he shows up at my home, best to go by work where there are witnesses; no such court documents exist. He gave me a number to call but be careful, they can splice audio if they can get you to say certain words like “yes” and reconstruct a verbal agreement, especially if it’s a zombie-debt, or they are trying to collect from a deceased relative, or just half-heartedly constructed a debt collection case by placing your information on an ( illegal) debt not owned by you- or taken from a reference. You would be surprised how much information they can compile about you, up to and including your last- four of your social security number ( highly illegal). Recourse can include filing a counter-complaint with and attorney for harassment and violations of Fair Debt Collections Practices ( if you want to make a little money from them). You may also record the information and start a Class-Action if the harassment has gone beyond discomfort and psychological abuse. I won’t mention my occupation but they’ve probably “stumbled” upon the wrong individual to run this scam on. There are no such debts in my records. These people will call your relatives, and get your information off the internet, they will also look up county records and “spoof” the number from the local county offices to make it look official. They hate these posts and also sometimes participate in making comments on reverse-lookup sites just to create doubt so you’ll attempt to contact them (See the comments made by “G.B.”). Check your credit report regularly and report harassment like this to the state Attorney’s General website for your area.
